PROGRAM STATEMENT
The Department of Educational Leadership, Counseling, and Postsecondary Education offers a two-year, 44-semester-hour Master of Arts in Education degree program with a concentration in Postsecondary Education: Student Affairs. The basic objective of the program is to prepare men and women to work in the student affairs field in two-year and four-year colleges and universities. This interdepartmental program integrates the theoretical with the practical by blending academic preparation in the areas of higher education, Student affairs, and administration with related areas such as psychology, social foundations, and research. The classroom course work is complemented by practica and internships in various student affairs units at the University of Northern Iowa or in selected nearby two-year and four-year colleges and universities. Both practica and internships are for degree credit; some internships may also include a stipend.
