PROGRAM STATEMENT
Masters Program

The primary purpose of the CSAA preparation program is to aid graduate students in acquiring the skills and competencies necessary to apply human development, interpersonal facilitation, group leadership, assessment, and administrative principles to work with college students in higher education organizations. The specific focus of the program is upon student development, which is concerned with students' learning and personal growth while they are in college. Graduates work in such settings as college residence halls, student offices, minority student services, Greek life programs, community service programs, learning assistance centers, new student orientation, and academic advising centers.

Doctoral Program

The Ph.D. Program in Counseling and Student Personnel Services with a specialty in Student affairs Administration is designed primarily to prepare individuals for practice and scholarship in one or more of the following areas:

Student affairs administration
Graduate education of student affairs professionals
Student assessment, outcomes research, and program evaluation in a student affairs context

Master's Application

  • GPA Requirement: 2.75 minimum
  • GRE = 850 minimum; MAT = 44 minimum
  • 3 letters of recommendation
  • Interview
  • Deadline for consideration for assistantships--January 15
  • M.Ed. deadline is January 15, we continue to review applications until the cohort is filled

Doctorate Application

  • GPA Requirement: 3.00 minimum
  • GRE = 1000 minimum
  • 3 letters of recommendation
  • Interview
  • 2 years of work experience
  • Doctoral admissions: Review of applications begins January 2 and continues until the cohort is filled

Cooper, Professor [Ph.D., The University of Iowa] & Coordinator of the College Student Affairs Administration Master’s Program.  Research interests include legal and ethical concerns of student affairs leadership and administration, multicultural issues, mentoring, and interventions with special student populations.
Dr. Laura Dean, Assistant Professor (Ph.D. University of North Carolina-Greensboro).  Research interests include small college environments, the use of standards in student affairs, and college counseling issues. 
Dr. Marrily Dunn, Associate Professor [Ph.D., The Ohio State University].  Research interests include student affairs in higher education, legal issues, and gender issues.
Dr. Richard Mullendore, Professor [Ph.D., Michigan State University] & Coordinator for the College Student Affairs Doctoral Program.  Research interests include living/learning environments in post-secondary education, the preparation of student affairs practitioners and gender issues.
