PROGRAM STATEMENT
The Department of Educational Administration and Counseling in the College of
Education, at Southeast Missouri State University offers a Master of Arts degree
in Higher Education Administration. The Master’s degree prepares students
for entry-level and middle management leadership positions in colleges, universities,
community colleges, and other post-secondary settings. The program of studies
consists of 21 hours of study in core courses and 15 to 18 hours in one of several
tracks: higher education administration, higher education counseling, and higher
education athletic administration.
PROGRAM MISSION
The Higher Education Administration program is designed to provide students
with both a theoretical background and a practical background. This is accomplished
by a combination of classroom learning and administrative experience through
the required internship. In addition, students have the option to conduct original
research by completing and defending a thesis. Students who do not chose this
option will complete a graduate paper designed to explore a problem within the
field of higher education administration and take a comprehensive examination
at the end of the program.
