PROGRAM STATEMENT
The Department of Educational Administration and Counseling in the College of Education, at Southeast Missouri State University offers a Master of Arts degree in Higher Education Administration. The Master’s degree prepares students for entry-level and middle management leadership positions in colleges, universities, community colleges, and other post-secondary settings. The program of studies consists of 21 hours of study in core courses and 15 to 18 hours in one of several tracks: higher education administration, higher education counseling, and higher education athletic administration.

PROGRAM MISSION
The Higher Education Administration program is designed to provide students with both a theoretical background and a practical background. This is accomplished by a combination of classroom learning and administrative experience through the required internship. In addition, students have the option to conduct original research by completing and defending a thesis. Students who do not chose this option will complete a graduate paper designed to explore a problem within the field of higher education administration and take a comprehensive examination at the end of the program.

Master's Application
• GPA: 2.75
• a completed application form
• a check or credit card for the application fee
• successful completion of a Bachelor’s degree at an accredited institution of post-secondary education
• transcripts of all previous undergraduate and graduate work
• official GRE scores from within the last five years
• three letters of recommendation
