PROGRAM STATEMENT
The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, in partnership with the Division of Student Affairs at Florida International University, offers both Master’s and Doctoral Degrees in Higher Education. Intended for those who wish to prepare for careers in Higher Education, the programs provide sufficient flexibility to move in the directions of teaching, or administrative areas across the institution. As a majority minority research institution, in a large urban setting, FIU is the prototype for universities of the 21st century. Given this advantage, diversity is a theme which is emphasized in all programs.

PROGRAM MISSION
The purpose of the Master’s Program is to prepare generalist practitioners for positions in higher education. Students may choose from two possible concentrations, Student Affairs Administration or Community College Leadership. Either of these options are very flexible and may be tailored to other interests through the choice of electives and practicums. The degree is an M.S. in Educational Leadership with a concentration in the chosen area.

The purpose of the Doctoral Program is to provide advanced preparation for education practitioners who aspire to leadership positions in administration or instruction. The field of higher education is broad and interdisciplinary; those engaged in it constantly examine theory and practice. The program is designed to stimulate research related to the field, particularly in the development of innovative practices, both administrative and instructional. Students may choose from two possible concentrations, Administration or Instruction. The degree is an Ed.D. in Higher Education with a concentration in the chosen area.
