PROGRAM STATEMENT
The Department of Leadership and Counseling program, at Eastern Michigan University, offers a Master of Counseling (M.A.) (CACREP) with a concentration in college counseling and a Master of Educational Leadership with a concentration in student affairs or higher education.

The program is a proactive response to the challenge of increasing the supply of professionally prepared administrators for post-secondary institutions. The program is committed to the professional preparation of counselors, student affairs educators, and administrators in higher education. The program provides opportunities for a flexible academic experience, constructed around either CACREP or CAS standards (depending on masterís program), and emphasizing experiential experiences with internships. Collaboration between faculty and student affairs staff is an outstanding feature of the program. The unique resources in the southeastern Michigan area enrich the program by providing a wealth of internship sites at two and four year colleges and universities. Graduates of the program will be prepared to enter or continue a career in student affairs and higher education at two-year and four-year institutions.

PROGRAM MISSION
The program is designed for individuals who are seeking a practical learning experience rather than a formal concentration in theory and research and provides a quality-learning environment with faculty who are engaged in teaching, research, and service.

PROGRAM UNIQUENESS
Program faculty are fully engaged in teaching, research and service activities. They are published scholars and practitioners from their specialization areas. Small class sizes and attention to both didactic instruction and experiential learning provide graduate students with rich learning opportunities.
