PROGRAM MISSION
The M.S. in College Student Affairs provides a dynamic curriculum for students interested in leadership careers in the field of student affairs in higher education. The nationally recognized program offers integrated courses and field experiences to address the changing conditions of higher education. The program provides a strong foundation of knowledge and skills needed for effective administration, efficient use of technology, and humanistic support of undergraduate and graduate education. Upon completion of the program, students will be prepared for entry and mid-level student affairs positions in post-secondary public and private education, state and federal agencies. As competent practitioners who are well grounded in research and theory, the program also prepares students for future Ph.D. studies and other terminal degrees.

Departmental Vision Statement
Throughstate-of-the-art technology andfacilities, and research-based training practices, the Department ofCounselingand Student Development seeks to become a premier training facility formasterās level practitioners in college student affairs.
Departmental Goals
1. Provide students with an M.S. inCollege Student Affairs consistent with the guidelines of the Councilfor the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education, recognized byboth the American College Personnel Association and the NationalAssociation for Student Personnel Administrators.
2. Provide a curriculum designed withexperiential, theoretical, and philosophical components that integratetheory into practice.
3. Facilitate the development of skillsin the areas of written, verbal, interpersonal, and technologicalcommunication.
4. Model and instruct behaviors andpractices consistent with the legal and ethical standards of thecollege student affairs profession.
5. Participate in the development anddissemination of new knowledge through effective teaching, disciplinerelated research, and service to the department, university,professional associations and local community.
6. Carry out a process of continuousoutcomes evaluationthat results in maintaining the leading edge status of the program.

PROGRAM UNIQUENESS

  • Students are instructed by both full-time faculty and practicing student affairs administrators
